Applications for registration may only be made by current financial members of the society and who shall be the owner of the animal. To be eligible for registration an animal must fulfil the following requirements: male or female of acceptable breed colour and characteristics and both dam and sire registered in the herd book. Imported embryos may be registered in the Australian herd book provided both sire and dam are registered in the herd book of the relevant society in the country of origin. The herd book also includes an appendix register – see below.

The GCSA have a 3 tier appendix system
All appendix registered animals will be identified with the Owner’s tattoo symbol in one ear PLUS the serial number in the other ear, or other forms of identification that qualify e.g. NLIS tag or photo
There shall be THREE (3) sections numbered 3, 2 & 1
i) Appendix 3 – Females ONLY – Female sired by a registered Guernsey bull from a foundation dairy cow OR sired by a dairy bull from a registered purebred Guernsey cow
ii) Appendix 2 – Females ONLY – Appendix 3 Female progeny sired by a registered purebred Guernsey bull
iii) Appendix 1 – Females ONLY – Appendix 2 Female progeny sired by a registered purebred Guernsey bull
iv) Entry into the Herd Book – Male and Female – Appendix 1 male or female progeny sired by a registered Guernsey bull and have acceptable Guernsey colour and breed characteristics (please note Males may not be recognised as purebred in other countries)
Colour markings
Females – accepted colour markings are a shade of fawn or tan with or without white markings or orange and white, or lemon and white. A clear (buff) coloured muzzle is preferred to a smokey or black muzzle
Males – accepted colour markings are golden fawn or tan with or without white markings or orange and white, or lemon and white. Black hair or brindle markings are undesirable and a black nose is most undesirable.
Inspections – The society reserves the right to inspect any animal before it is accepted into the Stud Book
Show eligibility – Appendix 1 & 2 females can be shown provided they are of acceptable Guernsey colour and breed characteristics.
